Effective August 26, 2026
Smoking in Tokyo is a free tool for finding designated smoking areas in Tokyo. This page explains what data the site touches, and what it doesn't.
If you allow it, your browser's Geolocation API is used to center the map on your position and show a "you are here" marker. Your coordinates are only used locally in your browser to render the map — they are never sent to or stored on our servers.
Using the thumbs up/down buttons on a place submits a vote (and, for thumbs down, a reason) to our database. This is stored anonymously — no name, account, or device identifier is attached to it, and it can't be traced back to you.
Your browser's local storage remembers a few things so the app behaves sensibly on return visits: which places you've already voted on, how many times you've visited, and whether you've dismissed or acted on the donation prompt. None of this leaves your browser or is sent to us.
We don't set our own tracking or advertising cookies. The third-party services above may set their own, governed by their respective privacy policies linked above.
This site isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
This policy may be updated occasionally; the effective date above will reflect the latest revision.
